Staff & Volunteers

The Heart of Camp - Our Staff

Summer staff are carefully chosen during a competitive application process for their maturity, experience with children, and spiritual leadership.  They bring boundless energy, enthusiasm and creativity.  Many are long-time campers who have developed a deep love for camp and want to give back.

We hire:

  • Counselors
  • CITs (volunteer position)
  • Lifeguards
  • Program Staff
  • Head Kitchen Staff

Staff attend a week of intensive training before camp begins which allows time for orientation, camp preparation, planning and team building.

Applying for Staff Positions

Interested in applying for a staff position?  Working at SPCC is a rewarding, but challenging experience.  It is important to consider both the sacrifices and benefits of the job before applying.  All staff members must be willing and able to work long and tiring hours without the conveniences we often take advantage of at home. Taking care of children is a huge responsibility that staff members must not take lightly. You must be willing to put your own priorities aside and focus on making camp an amazing experience for our campers. That being said, SPCC offers staff the unique experience of bonding together with each other and with God in one of the best examples of His natural beauty. You will grow spiritually, develop leadership skills, become close friends with fellow staff members, and truly do something important with your summer by impacting the lives of the campers you will serve.

Positions at SPCC are limited and competition for all positions is typical quite strong. Each year we must turn away many highly qualified applicants. We thank all applicants in advance for their interest in serving at Strawberry Point. All applicants will be notified as to whether or not their application has been accepted.

Volunteers

We would not be able to run our camp sessions without the support of many volunteers who give generously of their talent, time and energy.  Many volunteers are former campers or former staff members.  Some volunteer all summer long; most volunteer for a one-week session.  They spend many, many hours in the off-season planning and preparing to bring our campers awesome weekly themes.

Volunteers fill positions such as:

  • Session Director
  • Camp Evangelist
  • Bible Class Teacher
  • Crafts Instructor
  • Archery Instructor
  • Nurse
  • Kitchen Staff

All volunteers are required to have a clear criminal reference check & vulnerable sector screening.  They also receive training on camp policies including our human dignity policy and accessible customer service plan.

We thank all of our volunteers from the bottom of our hearts – you are amazing.

Camper to Staff Ratios

Ratios can vary slightly based on registration numbers and the number of weekly volunteers; however, counting all staff who have direct daily contact with campers (i.e. counselors, lifeguards, nurse, activity instructors), our ratio is typically 2:1.

Our camp also sets maximum camper to cabin counselor ratios at 5:1 for Primary Week, 6:1 for Junior and Senior.
